I have attempted numerous times to use the “Update Time Zone Data” button in order to use the timezone features of the site.

Every time, the page immediately loads with the update progress bar complete and says it has been successful. (When I click to leave the page, I briefly see the notice “A problem stopped the time zone update process from completing. Please refresh and try again.” in the place of the progress bar.) But upon going back to Events > Settings > Display > Date & Time, the button to update time zone data is still there.

    Things I have tried:

    • Deactivating all plugins and mu-plugins except The Events Calendar and enabling Twenty Twenty Four
    • Deleting all Draft Events (and emptying trash)
    • Deleting years of old Published Events (and emptying trash)

Doing these things with logging enabled shows no errors. I have tried these steps on both a local and staging environment with the same effect.

At this point, I’m at a total loss for how to debug or resolve this issue and would appreciate some additional recommendations.

    Hi @mrwweb ,

    Thank you for reaching out.

Have you tried deactivating and reactivating The Evens Calendar plugin to see if that alleviates the situation?

I also recommend going through our Working With Timezones knowledgebase article.

This seems to now be working correctly on our production site after deleting Drafts and clearing the trash. I’m wondering if the staging site being behind an HTTP_AUTH login made the timezone information fail to load? Is that a known issue?
