This is killing me – I’m unable to update any of my plugins, themes or translations. I’ve searched for a fix to this extensively, and have tried everything that I could find. Here’s what I know so far:

define ('FS_METHOD', 'direct'); IS present in wp-config.php
All file permissions are set to 664
All directories permissions are set to 775
I have tried setting everything to 777, attempted an update, still no luck. Changed everything back again.
    Server is Parallels Plesk V12.5.30
PHP version is 5.3.3, run as apache module
httpdocs directory, and every file and directory within, belongs to group psaserv, and user [hosting_account_username]

I have SSH access, and more or less know my way around some stuff but I’m nothing like an expert on these things.

I’m going nuts – I can’t find anything other than the above to fix this. Weird thing is, I’m able to upload images and other media. It’s just when it comes to updating or installing plugins, themes and translations that it won’t play nice.

Here’s an example of an error message I keep getting when updating a plugin:

An error occurred while updating Post Types Order: Could not create directory. post-types-order

Help! If anything else is needed please let me know!

    Thanks

    Alex

Hi kmessinger, thanks for your reply.

I don’t have that theme installed, no, I’m working on a custom theme and always prefer to uninstall plugins and themes that I have no use or intention for.

However, in the short time between posting my issue and today, I tried something that had otherwise not occurred to me before. In the hosting account Plesk panel, I went into Hosting Settings and switched from Apache Module to FastCGI application in the PHP version section.

This appeared to fix my issue. I don’t know exactly what this does to be honest but I’m now able to update and install my plugins.

Thanks for your help regardless, hopefully anybody else having a similar issue to the above may find this useful!
