Using plugin ver. , WP 5.6.2

I created a new event by copying an existing event. There are three categories of events defined (Presentation, Seminar, Training). The source event was of category Presentation. After copying the event, I was able to update all the fields I needed to (title, description, date, time, image), but NOT the category.

On the back end, none of the three categories are checked. In fact, looking at other events created in the past, none of them have the category checked.

Looking in the database, I see that the new event has the code corresponding to the Training category. If I manually change that code to the value for the Presentation category (which was the category of the source event), then the event displays correctly on the front end. However, it still does not show any checked category value on the back end. Nonetheless, in the list of events in the back end, the category is correctly displayed under the event title.

A final bit of information. If I create a new event from scratch, I still cannot check one of the categories for the event.

After a little more investigation, it appears to be a browser issue, not a plugin issue. I usually use Firefox (86.0), but found that the problem did not occur when using Chrome. Further, I noticed that after several tests, the check marks would ultimately appear in firefox, but only after clicking on the desired category box several times.

Clearing the browser cache has nothing to do with the issue.

I will check for possible plugin issues, but I doubt that is the case, given that the issue never arose before.

I’ve encountered the same issue in firefox where checkboxes just don’t show as expected. I’m not sure as to why though … it seems wordpress is doing jquery on those (to show a better-looking checkbox I assume) and that sometimes doesn’t seem to be working in firefox. Have you tried in chrome? Or do you have the same issue there too?
I’m not really sure what I can do here, I’m a bit lost too as checkboxes are not something I’m influencing in any way. I’ll try some more debugging once I can reproduce it again.

I rebooted the computer and found the problem had disappeared. Whatever the cause, I am satisfied that it is not a plugin issue.
