    My site is on SiteGround which has announced they have put auto-updates to 5.0 on hold. Yet my site keeps updating to 5.0 and I’m not ready for it to do so yet.

    Things that have been tried:

    • Restore to the previous version
    • Ensure SiteGround is managing the sites updates through their update manager
    • Checked all settings and plug-ins to ensure nothing is triggering the updates
    • placed define( 'WP_AUTO_UPDATE_CORE', false ); in the website’s wp-config.php file

    Despite all of these efforts, the site continues to update to 5.0 after a restore. What could I be missing?

    Updating to 5.0 is in generall better but make sure you delete that plugin manually in order to prevent such problems in the future.

    Actually what you’re saying is not true! There is no option to disable WordPress updates on Siteground. My website is hosted with you and in Cpanel there is option only to delay update of WP Core with maximum of 72 hours. Or you have to manually cancel every upcoming update from CPanel again. I know this is for security but you’re not leaving any option for website owners to fix things with these auto-updates! Sometimes it costs a lot of time and money to FIX your theme and plugins to work with latest WP update.

    It’s critical to the business!

    You can post a ticket in your Help Desk and request delisting if you insist on staying on old WordPress versions.

    Unfortunately you have to do this for each and every site. We have 2 cloud server products and SG requires us to delist each new site we add, but then they always tell us in the ticket they can’t do it. Once we insist they do it, but it’s quite the hassle.

    We manage updates for our users by performing the updates on staging sites before hand and we usually delay a week or two from a major release as there’s almost always breaking bugs and immediate patches. While I appreciate the need for updates when SG updates sites, if something breaks we then have to fix it, often as unbillable time.

    If anyone asked me what I thought about SG I’d say their services is good, their support is good, but unless you’re committed to being available to repair the site at the drop of a hat after they push potentially site breaking updates you may want to see what other options you have. I don’t know if I could run anything mission critical on such a system.
