Cannot save to FTP / SSL/TLS required on the control channel

    Hi,

    since 1 week I cannot backup to FTP anymore.

    Errore message:

    FTP settings test result: Failure: we did not successfuly log in with those credentials.

    Messages:
    PHP event: code E_Warning: ftp_login(): SSL/TLS required on the control channel (line 46, wp-content/plugins/updraftplus/inludes/ftp.class.php)”

    What can I do?

    Hi,

    The error message is saying that the credentials you enter is incorrect. You can also check this FAQ for ways to fix the problem – https://updraftplus.com/faqs/ftp-credentials-working-shall/

    Hi Bryle,

    I didn’t change anything and just over night on all of my websites the credentials are not correct anymore?

    I don’t think that this is the problem.

    I also checked the credentials with FileZilla and there is no problem logging in.

    So it might be another problem – could you give me a hint?

    What about this part of the message “SSL/TLS required on the control channel (line 46, wp-content/plugins/updraftplus/inludes/ftp.class.php)”? What exactly does that mean? I checked line 46, but didn’t understand what this message was pointing to…

    Hi,

    The error message you are getting seems to be implying that your FTP requires encryption, can you check this?

    Hm – I found this on my hosters website:
    “only encrypted FTP connections will be possible on the Classic Hosting platform.“

    Does this mean that I cannot use the free version of Updraft Plus anymore?

    Yes, you will need to either have this add on: https://updraftplus.com/shop/sftp/ or Premium or switch to a different remote storage.
