i have successfully uploaded the wordpress files to my root folder which I have tested by going to https://www.mysite/readme.html where I can see the readme web page with the “famous 5 minute install” instructions.

I have set up a new database on my 1and1 hosting account and entered the database information (database name, username, hostname and password) in the wp-config-sample.php file which I then saved out as wp-config.php.

problem: when i try and go to mysite/wp-admin/install.php, i just get the ‘page cannot be found message’.

I have triple checked the database information entered in the wp-config.php file but no joy.

Any ideas would be most welcome

    Thank you

Double check via FTP or cPanel were the install.php file has indeed been uploaded at https://yoursite.com/wp-admin/install.php and re-upload files if it’s not there

    hi mercime,

the install.php file is in the wp-admin folder. I’ve just read in another post that the problem could be due to the fact my hosting package is for windows MS SQL and not linux. I therefore may need to get a linux hosting package that supports My SQL. Does that sound like it could be the cause of the problem?

    MS SQL will not work

Move over to a linux host and you’ll be up in no time. Sounds like you did everything perfectly fine, just the fact that it is a MS SQL is causing problems.

At least you can be comforted in know the reason why you’re having the issues now!

thanks for all the advice. As per the advice, I have set up a linux package and MySQL database. Just waiting for some of the configuration to complete and will give it another try soon.

    Kind Regards

    Best of luck!

    thanks for this information

Just to confirm, setting up a linux hosting package and MySQL database did sort out the original problem I was having. Thanks for the advice!!

Glad you have your WordPress working now. Now onto the customizations ??
