In reSmush.it’s FAQ, It says: “Yes, by excluding/reverting this asset you’ll have your original image available”. However I see no way to do this either in bulk or one image at a time. I see no setting in Dashboard > Media > reSmush.it for this task. Each image in the Media Library has a checkbox for “Disable of reSmush.it”, but this checkbox doesn’t stay checked when I move away from the dialog. Meanwhile, I can see that images that were optimized were backed up with “-unsmushed” appended to the end file name. So how do I restore my original image set?

  • Hi Cparris,

The plugin keeps a copy of your original picture (backed with -unsmushed). A classic way to restore your original pictures, is to force quality to 100% and disable the plugin.

Maecia, thank you for your reply. By force quality to 100% and disable, I think you mean:
    1) Set “Image Quality” field to 100.
    2) Hit “Save Changes” button.
    3) Hit “Optimize all pictures” button and wait for the process to complete.
    4) Disable the plugin.

If so, I did as you said, but the files being referenced are still not the same size as the backups (ones labeled -unsmushed). The process took a similar amount of time as the original optimization. So it seems like it runs through the filtering process at a quality of 100, rather than actually restoring the backups.

This is not a complaint, just an observation. I have since figured out a way to rename the -unsmushed files in bulk locally using a renaming utility, so I think my problem is solved. At this point I’m just reporting my findings. Thank you for your effort to respond and support your product!
