Cannot reset password via email or db edit

  • Im having trouble. I tried upgrading to 3.7.1 and failed miserably. Some misplaced files i think, due to similar folder-subfolder names. I wasnt even getting the website or the website/wp-admin page.

    Finally got it back up and working by carefully running through and re-uploading my backup files to the server.

    1. Now I try logging in but I can’t login successfully. Im getting the invalid username and pass. I tried resetting the password via the link in the login page but after following the link form my email and entering the new password, I still get invalid username and pass…weird huh?

    2. I tried creating a new user and pass and I can’t login either.

    3. I tried modifying the db wp-users table entry for my user directly in phpmyadmin by entering this value which i was told was admin123 = 0192023a7bbd73250516f069df18b500
    but it doesn’t work. When I click on the GO button after editing my record’s user_pass for that long alphanumeric string, the table shown displays that user_pass for my username, but logging into mysite/wp-admin with my user and admin123 fails just the same. When I return to the db and refresh the users table, the value is different.

    What else can I do? I don’t know what stripping down a db means, nor do I know how to do it.

    Did you restore a pre-upgrade database backup?

    how do I do that?

    I can see there is a db copy in the wp-content copy i made but I don’t know how to restore it.

    If I have changed the value via lost password, and via phpmyadmin directly, wouldn’t it be more likely that its a config or file error?

    Im still waiting for your confirmation to upload the database which is named 1874826583_-_mydbname.sql.

    I downloaded three folders before trying to upgrade:
    wp-admin
    wp-includes
    wp-content
    plus root files

    that db file was in the wp-content/backup-db/ folder

    Were you running a backup plugin?

    No, I didn’t run any backup. I was on whatever version was before 3.7.1 and decided to make the upgrade manually because i can never make it automatically.

    I simply connected to the server via Cyberduck, downloaded a copy of those files/folders I mentioned and I have them sitting on my desktop.

    What was the date of this backup file on the remote server?

    the file I have on my computer is dated yesterday @ 3:46pm which is around when I copied it.

    the same file in the wp-content/backupdb/ is dated march 2, 2013

    No – not on your computer. On the remote server.
