    Hello

I have just noticed that an image is not replaced as expected if the new image has a different aspect ratio.

Suppose I insert a square image into an page and choose the value “large” for the image size. If I use EMR 3.3.6 to replace the image with one that has an aspect ratio of 2:3, the full-size image is replaced on the server and new thumbnails are generated. However, the thumbnails of the previous square image remain on the server. If I look at the article in the frontend, the old square image is still displayed (cache has been cleared).

I tried to regenerate the thumbnails with “Regenerate Thumbnails Advanced” Plugin and selected the option “Delete unused thumbnails”. This deleted the thumbnails of the previous square image, but the article doesn’t show any image in the frontend anymore.
If I check the page in the backend, I see that the src attribute of the image still points to the square thumbnail.

What to do to replace images with different aspect ratios?

    Many thanks

Hello @dawasi and thank you for using EMR! ??

The issue noted by you is most likely caused by a cache that hasn’t been yet flushed.
We put together comprehensive guide about this, could you please take a few moments to review it?

    Regards,

    Hi Alex

    Thank you for your reply.

I followed the instructions and cleared all caches. Unfortunately the problem persists.

With the square image, the large thumbnail had a size of 1030x1030px. With the rectangular image the large thumbnail has a size of 1030x687px. If I check the post in the backend, I notice that the src-address of the image still points to the thumbnail with the size of the old image (1030x1030px). Therefore I’m not surprised that the old image is still displayed in the frontend.

    Thanks

    Hello again! ??

I need to apologize to you, we constantly have many cases where the cache is the issue and because of that I missed an important detail from your initial message ??
Could you please make sure you used the second option when trying to replace an image with a different aspect ratio?

I can understand that, no problem.

I have now replaced the image with the second option. The image was replaced, but there was an unpleasant side effect. We use WPML without translation management or image translation addons, but with the option to automatically duplicate uploaded media in all languages. If we replace the image with the second option, it will only be replaced in the active language.

Can we tweak this so that the image only needs to be replaced once?

    Thanks,
    Daniel

    Daniel,
    thank you for your understanding.

I don’t think we have support for this at the moment in EMR, that’s something we’ll need to add on our roadmap ??
