    Hello,

I’m looking to remove my Google Maps API key and allow my client to set their Google Maps API key. Whenever I navigate to:

    /wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=tribe_events&page=tribe-common&tab=addons

And try to clear the field of any text, click the save button, it keeps coming back with my API key. I’ve tried to enter a space and a   but it keeps being rejected. I current don’t see any feasible way to remove this API key except from the database directly which is generally not a fun option.

Could this be patched in a future version of this plugin?

Edit: Even removing it from the serialized database value, every time I navigate back to the page it’s automagically repopulated and reupdated in the database. This is generally, not cool.

    Hi @howdy_mcgee

Thanks for reaching out, I apologize for the inconvenience that you’re facing here. Have you try clearing your site cache or server cache and seeing if that helps?

I know that the database route should work but it could be a caching issue as well.

There’s been no movement on this ticket for more than a week, so I’m going to mark it as resolved.

If you still need assistance with this, please open a new ticket and we’ll be happy to help.

    Cheers,
    Eugene.

    Hello,

Unfortunately, I’ve tested this scenario again using the latest version of Tribe Events and it appears to still be an issue. I don’t believe this issue should be marked as resolved until it’s actually resolved.

    Hi @howdy_mcgee

I’m sorry to hear that you are still experiencing an issue here!

I believe the reason why you are seeing this issue is because there does need to be an API key there, even if you do not want your custom key entered there.

Do you have access to the default API key that came with the plugin?

Can you enter a different API key there?

    I hope that helps!

    Thanks,
    Jaime

    Hello,

If the plugin comes with a default API key, wouldn’t it make more sense to use the default key if the field is empty instead of preventing the user from removing their own API key?

This feature prevents me from simply removing my API key without manual work and database access which, in my opinion, is not very user-friendly. I can’t think of any other plugin in the WordPress ecosystem that prevents the user from removing a license key or API key that they previously entered. Usually, what happens is that the connected feature stops working, which is expected.

    Hi @howdy_mcgee

Thanks for your feedback. For your reference, the following is the default API key that you can enter in that space:

    AIzaSyDNsicAsP6-VuGtAb1O9riI3oc_NOb7IOU

    I hope that helps!

    Thanks,
    Jaime
