If you have set categories not to be synced, every time you go to publish a product in one of those categories, you get a facebook message pop up to tell you the product is in an excluded category, with the option to either go to the settings, or to cancel.

There needs to be a third option ‘I know, publish product anyway’. Or better still, no pop up at all. At the moment I have to turn your plugin off to publish these products!

  • Hi there @ehmarketing,

When publishing the product in these no-sync categories, the Facebook sync option must be set to Do not sync. If it’s set to Sync and show/hide, the extension assumes you’d like to sync this product to Facebook and provides next steps to do that. See screenshot here.

By selecting Do not sync, the product can be published in the no-sync category without deactivating the plugin.

If you have a suggestion on improving this flow, feel free to add it to the ideas board for the community to comment and vote on.

Hi @tijosh we got a customer with the same problem. I also came up with the idea of manually select Do not sync. But it’s a massive time consuming process.

What is the smart about excluding categories, if you manually need to exclude all new products? We have by purpose excluded the category because we know, that all products in this category should not be synced to Facebook.

I love your plugin, it has made it much easier to connect with Facebook. So don’t take this as a criticism of your plugin, but a suggesstion to make it even better.

    Kind regards
    Morten

    Hi, @mortenz!

Normally, according to our forum guidelines, I’d ask if you could create your own thread, but I’ll go ahead and answer you here.

For excluding categories, if you haven’t already, you may want to use the filters and bulk actions you’ll find on WooCommerce > Products:

    Specifically, you can:

    1. Select the category you don’t want synced to Facebook and click on “Filter.”
    2. Click on the checkbox next to “Name” to select all the products in the category
    3. On the Bulk actions dropdown, select “Exclude from Facebook sync” and click on Apply

I hope that helps and thank you for the wonderful comments about the plugin!

    Hi @tijosh

    Thanks for the quick response.

So for each product you need to go to the Facebook settings and manually choose not to sync the product? As @mortenz says above, what is the point in the excluded categories then?

Also, in the plugin settings I had unchecked the ‘Enable Product Sync’ box, and not only still had the dialogue box popup, it was still syncing products.

When I created some of these products, I duplicated one of the other products and had “Product A (copy)” which I then edited to “Product B” and published. Last night looking at Facebook which was promoting that my page had added new products, I saw one was “Product A (copy)”. So it seems to have been syncing drafts too. When clicking the link in Facebook it was going to the correct “Product B”.

    Hi @dcka

That’s a good tip… however, what is the point in the excluded categories in configuration? I dont mean that in a cantankerous way, just curious what those settings are for?

    Hi again @ehmarketing,

    > As @ mortenz says above, what is the point in the excluded categories then?

You are right to ask. The setting is to provide you with a way of keeping out products from your fb catalogue. Namely any category that is set there will disable the product sync for those products.

    > Also, in the plugin settings I had unchecked the ‘Enable Product Sync’ box, and not only still had the dialogue box popup, it was still syncing products.

That sounds like your settings are not honored. Setting a category for “Exclude categories from sync” should disable the product sync for products that are in this category.
I could not make the fb extension run just yet, because I need to update my local test site. I ll try and get to that as soon as I can.

    Kind regards,

    Thanks for getting back.

Why does @dcka explain above how to set this with product bulk edit per category? Are these settings not doing the same thing?

I feel like the plugin shouldn’t do anything at the point of publishing, and instead should check products to synch after publishing.

The issue with my draft products (from a ‘copy to new draft’) appearing in my Facebook catalog is very odd, and very undesirable.

@ehmarketing — Can you send us a screenshot of the error message that pops up for you when trying to publish a product in an excluded category? I’d like to track down where in our code this is coming from so we can open an enhancement request for our developers to look at. ??

I agree that having it ask you every time feels unnecessary.

Also, could you please send me a copy of your site’s system status report? You can find it under WooCommerce > Status in the dashboard. Click “Get system report” and then the “Copy for support” button. Once you’ve done that, paste it into your reply.

We haven’t heard back from you in a while, so I’m going to mark this as resolved – if you have any further questions, you can start a new thread.
