• I’m running WordPress 2.9.2 on a dedicated virtual server.

    My problem is the following:

I cannot publish a post or a page after previewing it. Whenever I press “publish” after a preview the little wheel just keeps spinning and the page/post is not published.

It doesn’t matter whether this is a post/page that has already been published or whether it is a new page.

    I can publish without previewing.

Does anyone have an idea how I could fix this? I searched the forum but couldn’t find any other related posts.

    Thank you very much,

    Timo

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-related problems?

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin? Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – re-uploading the wp-admin and wp-includes folders from a fresh download of WordPress?

First of all – thank you very much for taking the time to respond to my problem.

I have completed all steps mentioned in your post concurrently but the problem still persists :-(.

In addition to not being able to publish after the preview I’m also not able to save a draft after the preview.

I think I might have identified the cause of the problem:

This problem only occurs when I’m using Chrome (my default browser). Everything works fine when I use Firefox.

I was able to replicate the problem with Chrome on a different blog that is physically on an entirely different server running WP 2.9.2 as well.

Apparently there is a problem with Chrome and WP.

I don’t have access to my personal computer atm…

My suggestion would be to try to replicate the problem on a different computer running chrome. That will isolate if its a problem with chrome and WP, or your install of chrome

Thanks RVoodoo, good suggestion. I tried it on a different computer and had the same problem.

Tried it just for fun and the same here on WIN XP SP3 and Chrome 4.0.249.89 unknown (38071) and WordPress 2.9.1 (as the topic starter?)
I could go back to the edit posts list and saw my draft and could publish then.

@henkholland: Just to clarify: I didn’t go back to the list of saved drafts (edit.php).

From within the add new post form (post-new.php) I clicked save, then preview. I then closed the preview window and then tried to publish the post from the form.

The same problem occurs when I try it with an existing post (post.php). And, as I said, it happens with pages as well.

I’m using Chrome 4.0.249.89 unknown (38071) on Windows Vista Home Premium SP 1 at home. At work I’m using XP. That means, in total I have been able to replicate the problem on three PCs using two different operating systems and on two blogs running WP 2.9.2 which are physically on entirely different servers. I posted the problem on Twitter and got a response that someone has the same problem on Mac.

i don’t have a clue what this can be… I sometimes have this as well (not sure in which browser since I use multiple), but if it happens I just click on the view posts button, open the post again and redo the action. Seems to work every time….

I’m using Mac (Snow Leopard) with Chrome 5.0.307.11 beta and I have the same problem also when I clic on preview I no longer save the draft.

I have the same problem using Chrome v4-v5 and WP v2.9.0-v2.9.2. It does not happen all the time though so I’m not sure if is related to preview display. It looks very random, and rather anoying but I try to bear it…

Same problem here on multiple computers with three different WordPress sites… only in Chrome. It happens about 50% of the time, and I can not detect a pattern as to when. I love Chrome and I am not willing to switch default browser so I deal with it but it is VERY frustrating!!

    Solutions ???

I’m having the same issues with Safari on the Mac in Snow Leopard. This is a serious problem. Surely, someone’s working on this, right, WordPress? Please?
