Cannot optimize png files

Hi. Looks like a great plugin and well recommended. However it does not automatically install optipng, which is essential for optimizing png files – of which I have many. THE PROBLEM IS that it has been impossible to find a coherent explanation of how to install optipng given that it has not installed automatically. Time is too short, and there are many plugins, so next please!
