Cannot Open WordPress File

‘no success’ is kinda vague, could you explain what you are trying to do and what, if any, error messages you get?

Hi, thank you for your reply. I am trying to download the software. I go to “download,” hit “download.zip” and then try to “open file.” I get a message, stating, “The compressed (zipped) Folder is invalid or corrupted.” I then hit “ok.”

I use SBC Yahoo DSL, Microsoft Office XP, and Internet Explorer on a Sony Vaio Intel Pentium 4 Processor 2.80 GHz1.

Don’t try opening the file, save it to your desktop instead. Then once the download is finished, navigate to the file on your desktop, and unzip it from there.

OK, I just saved it to my desktop. How do I unzip it? Thank you for your assistance.

First try just double-clicking on it. Windows should unzip it without further ado. If that does NOT work, then go here: https://www.rarlab.com/ and download the trial version of WinRAR, from the “downloads” link near the top of the page, install it, and then double-click on the file again.

Hi, thank you very much! I was able to unzip the file by downloading the trial version of WinRAR and installing it.

However, I’m not quite sure what to do next. What I see before me in the opened file of “wordpress-1[1].5.1.3.zip – WinRAR (evaluation copy)” is “Add”, “Extract to”, “Test”, “View”, “Delete”, etc….. Please help!

Bottom line: I would like to start a personal blog. I used to use Blogger.com; however, their limited organizing tools as far as categorization of topics made me seek another “blog engine, ” or whatever the proper term is.

If you’ve got the files extracted, then you will need to upload them and follow the installation instructions. You should have a file called ReadMe and it should help walk you through what you need to do next.

Click on Extract Files. That will give you an explorer-like tree setup, where you can select where you want to store the extracted wordpress files. I usually make a folder under Program Files for something like this in the beginning, so navigate to Program Files, and make a folder named WordPress, then in the Extract Files screen, navigate to that folder (the path will appear at the top of winrar in that address bar), and click OK. That decompresses all the files from the .rar, and puts them in the folder.

I’m reading the “Read Me” file. And I am very sorry for needing my hand held at every microstep along the way, but I don’t know what to do next.

Number 1 indicates that I need to “unzip the package in an empty directory.” I’m sorry but “unzip” what? And which package? Empty directory?

If you’re reading the README file, then you’ve already unzipped what you needed to unzip.
