• I have tried all of the “X Solutions That Always Work” fixes and I and stumped.

I am completely confounded by not being able to login to ./wp-admin following a fresh install of WP 6! I have no plugins, only one user created at setup (through Softaculous). I enter my correct case-sensitive credentials and it just brings back a blank login dialog. I have also tried a manual install with the same result.

I have two other sites I created that can log in to using the same browser (Safari)- one executes a redirect:
    https://domain.com/wp-login.php?redirect_to=https%3A%2F%2Fdomain.com%2Fwp-admin%2F&reauth=1 and is successful.

The other uses the Login with Ajax plugin (successfully), but going straight to ./wp-admin in the address bar does not work.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

That’s not a login from WordPress. It’s a login request directly from your web server. Did you add anything to .htaccess?

This is as installed- I have not edited .htaccess.

I thought it was strange that I did not see the typical WP login page, but I can’t figure out why it would be this way out of the gate, unless my hosting provider has some insight (waiting for a response).

So, my hosting provider (GreenGeeks) set up a test wordpress installation, and said all was working as it should with the login. I still got a server-based login dialog when I tried from my location, so we’ll see what they make of that.

    **SOLUTION**
@sterndata : “directory privacy” for the public_html folder was turned ON- once it was turned off, everything worked as it should.

This is not something I ever payed attention to- should some directories be set to private, or is that only if there are other site users with some kind of access to the root directory of the site?
