• First – thank you in advance for any help.

When going to wp-admin and logging in – the site refreshes and takes me back to the homepage without any indication of actually logging in, and not taking me to the Dashboard.

Here’s what I’ve done thus far to troubleshoot / resolve the issue.

    • Cleared my browser’s cache/history in both Chrome/IE/FF
    • Disabled all plugins through phpmyadmin
    • Reverted back to the default theme through phpmyadmin
    • Checked to ensure the URLs were consistent in phpmyadmin
    • Turned on debugging to check for something specific. Didn’t see anything related.
    • Cleared the redirected URL when trying to log in (login directly from https://www.site.com/wp-admin) w/out all the redirect info afterwards.
    • Replaced core WP files.
    • Removed the .htaccess file.

The result? The exact same thing. I login, the page refreshes to the home page, no dashboard, no indication that anything has actually happened.

As you can imagine this is making me crazy. Any help is appreciated!! Thank you.

  • Hello, [email protected], & welcome.

Firstly, could you please provide a site url? That’s often very helpful in diagnosing problems. Second, is this a single- or multisite installation? Lastly, do you have any caching plugins running, or does your hosting provider use caching software such as Varnish?

Lastly, does the result differ when going to yoursite.com/wp-login.php as opposed to wp-admin?

Again, a site url would be helpful

    the site is https://www.aromacda.com

    This is a single installation.

    No cache plugins or cloudflare

The results do differ. On wp-login.php when I attempt a login it simply refreshes back to the login page. On wp-admin when I attempt to login it refreshes to the home page and I’m not logged in.

I’ve attempted several fixes for this.

Cleared browser cache / computer cache.
    Disabled all plugins.
Changed theme via FTP to default.
Ensured database is pointing to uniform URL names.
    Replaced wp core files.

So far I have the same results. This is making me crazy.

Thanks for your help in advance!

Hi again, [email protected]. This site is copyright 2011. Your WordPress version is 4.6. So it would appear that this has been of somewhat recent onset. So when did this stop working, &, more importantly, can you think of anything that occurred at or near the time it quit, i.e., a change in hosting providers, installation of a new theme/plugin, etc? Could we please see your .htaccess file? Also, could you please change wp_debug from false to true in your wp-config.php file? Then please copy/paste any errors it generates. Change it back to false immediately once you copy/paste any generated errors, as this poses a serious security risk, never mind it makes the site look terrible. Also, your hosting provider may have a facility to view error logs in its control panel. If you see anything there, please paste that into your reply as well. In addition, do you have any firewall software running such as Securi or WordFence? Lastly, have you contacted your hosting provider to see if there are any mod_security rules firing that might be causing this?

Please don’t hesitate to get back to us if you have questions or if anything is unclear.
