Cannot login to Admin (after trying everything…)

    Okay, so I have tried all the usual suspects and have a local install that’s not allowing me to login. The correct details fire me back to the login screen – no errors anywhere that I can see.

    I have another install taken from the same host that works fine. This did used to work just fine also…

    Help!

  • This doc has many methods that will let you reset your password, all of the methods word, you only need to use one of them, there are so many methods as some are easier in different situations.

    Hey @rossmitchell, thanks so much for the reply. There were some methods in there I was not aware of. Sadly nothing worked ??

    The issue does not seem to be that the password is wrong, but that when the correct details are entered it thinks for a while and then refreshes the login page with no error message at all. if I put in incorrect details I get an error message.

    It feels like it’s something to do with it trying to access wp-admin but gets kicked back to the login page every time.

    The url does change from from just wp-login.php to wp-login.php?redirect_to=https%3A%2F%2Ftestsite.local%2Fwp-admin%2F&reauth=1

    So it seems that the account is OK.
    Are there any errors in the server logs ?

    Looking further it could be a theme or plugin problem, rather than overthink how and why, it is so much quicker to test and eliminate these possibilities. So rename your theme directory and try again. If no fix, then restore the directory and successively rename each of your plugin directories.
    If the above eliminates theme and plugin problems then it has to be a problem with WordPress core. So keep:
    file- /wp-config.php
    directory: /wp-content/plugins
    directory: /wp-content/themes
    and delete and relpace ALL of the other files.
