  • Sounds like you probably changed the URL settings? You can change those back using FTP – I’d recommend the functions file method:

    I was not trying to change the URL settings. I didn’t edit those. I was just editing the website’s tagline.

    I don’t see any URL mentioned in wp-config.php

    By editing Settings > General settings, what php file was I trying to edit? I believe it must be that one that’s corrupted now …

    I logged in my MySQL database and edited the siteurl value in wp_options – it seems to have fixed it!

    Is there any way to know if anything else was affected? Is it completely fixed now?

    You don’t edit any php (or other files) via the dashboard, except when you actually go to one of the “Edit” sections (in Appearance or Plugins)… And even then you can’t edit WordPress files, just themes and plugins.
    Wordpress settings are saved in the database.
