Cannot Log into WP Admin

  • Somehow, I have lost the ability to log into the WP admin. area on my site. I have looked at the database and under the WP OPTIONS field I have checked that I have the correct password and admin. email set up. I was able to get into the site yesterday using the same password etc.

    When I tried to access it today, there was a message saying that WordPress needed to update the database, which was then completed successfully, it said. Now when I attempt the login, it tells me that the user name or password is incorrect. When I put in the admin email address so the password can be reset, it tells me that no record of this email address exists. It was after this that I checked both the wp-config. and the database files to check my information again. It was the same as previously.

    So what do I do now? I’m open to suggestions before I do something really radical. At this stage, I simply don’t have a clue.

    I could export the database, trash my existing WordPress installation, install a new one, then import the data again. I would be interested in hearing of another alternative – if there is one. Thanks.

  • Same here I think it’s wordpress because the same thing happened to me at the same time i checked the server and everything. What webhost do you use?

    In this instance my site is with Hostgator. I have some other sites there which do not have this problem.

    try deactivating all plugins via sql

    I am having a similar problem — can’t login, the admin panel doesn’t recognize my sign in email…

    Where exactly do I look in my server files for the login info I used? I’m not a coder so if you can talk to my like I am four years old and tell which folder and which file, I would greatly appreciate it!
