Cannot Link WordPress to Facebook

I recently tried to add the meta pixel plugin to wordpress, however, when I send test traffic to the page it remains on ‘no activity yet’ suggesting something has gone wrong. I’ve tried to test the page using the facebook pixel helper extension in chrome as well, which similarly shows no pixel has been added to the webpage. Is this a compatibility issue with the latest version of wordpress? I feel like I have followed the instructions closely and do not know where things went wrong. Any guidance would be appreciated.
