    Hi everyone,

I got desperate with this one. I use Win Server 2012 (latest updates), IIS 8 and I am not able to install WP via a Platform Installer. Everything looks good until mySQL db credentials are displayed. It says that the WP has been installed and I can visit the site or click Finish. Regardless of what I do here, the installation process is finished and I should carry on configuring WP site in a web browser. This is where it all ends. The following message is displayed and there is nothing to do about it.

You do not have the appropriate group permissions to access this page. Please try logging in or contact an administrator for assistance.

I can hardly login to a website which has not been setup and configured yet.

    I tried
    – many installation attempts
    – different mySQL versions
    – mySQL installed by a Platform Installer
    – mySQL installed before WP installation

It wasn’t always like this. It worked properly a few months ago but unfortunately I do know what happened. Before “something” happened on the server, I was able to install the WP via a Platform Installer with no issues. It is no longer true. It is a production server.

Any suggestions here? Any help how to troubleshoot it? Any workaround like a manual install (avoiding Platform Installer)?

    Thanks a lot guys !!!
    Rado

  • the error that you’re getting is referring to accessing the files on the server via the browser and via the IIS process.

this is a IIS permission problem. Are you sure you set them correctly?

I found this page and it talks about IIS application pools and permissions:

    https://www.thekeyboardtickler.com/2012/10/17/running-wordpress-on-iis/

Let me know how that works out.

If thats the message you get when you go to the webpage, then yes its a permission issue you have on your files.

Confirm all the WordPress files are there, and if they are, check your permissions.

    Thanks guys for your feedbacks!

After a lot of digging in problems of other people I found a guy who had a similar problem (not the same) and his problem was a DNS record not set up correctly. I checked my domain’s DNS setting and found it! There was an old IP address set in a database of one of name servers, others had a new one, the correct one. The WP had a fatal problem with this inconsistency (sync issue I guess) but reported totally misleading message.

    Thanks for your time anyway!
