    Hi there,

I use Cloudways hosting, I have installed the plugin and pngout, but I cannot install the other files.

    jpegtran: Missing
    optipng: Missing
    gifsicle: Missing
    pngout: Installed?version: Mar 19 2015
    pngquant: Missing
    webp: Missing

I have reset the user permissions, files I downloaded, I can see them in EWWW folder, but there is no install button for other packages in EWWW settings.

How could I install them? I already asked the hosting provider support to check is this something on their end, but after few tests, they send me to you. I will appreciate your help.

    Best Regards,
    Marcin

  • markjohnl, you’re right that my DO server is almost 6 months old and the Vultr one is brand new. I’m sure that has something to do with it. Did support indicate anything about what they might have done to fix the problem? I will probably reach out to them as well since it sounds like it’s an issue on their end that they are able to resolve.

Ok, they are setting me up with a test server later today, but I wanted to ask something, since they said this was optional (by customer request only):

Did any of you have problems or warnings about the exec() function at any point after you installed EWWW IO?

    (@nosilver4u)

Well, if it is any comfort to anyone, my test server does the same thing. They are supposed to be setting something up for me so that the tools will work. Not sure if they are just going to install the tools on the VPS, or what they are doing. Will report back as I know more.

    Hi nosilver4u,

I’m only on the free trial, so have the default setup. I don’t recall ever seeing any errors or warnings like that.

glad to hear that you’re having problems … nothing personal ??

Thanks for that bug report @kmarcink, although it isn’t related to the problem at hand, I’ll be sure to fix it for the next release.

Cloudways installed the tools for me on my testing server, but at this point it does not seem possible to use the binaries that are bundled with EWWW. I sounds like they might make the installs part of the default WP app, but existing installs would need to request installation of the tools from their support. I’ll post back once I get confirmation on that.

Thanks nosilver4u, I am looking forward to hear back from you.

Still no updates from Cloudways, will post any updates as I get them. All I know at this point is that their devs can install any of the tools you request with EWWW (jpegtran, optipng, gifsicle, pngquant, and cwebp), and pngout seems to work fine using the automatic installer with EWWW.

Just talked to Cloudways support as well. They said they wouldn’t install the tools for me because they stop working eventually. Like nosilver4u mentioned though, they did say they were looking into adding EWWW to the default app but wanted it voted for on the user feedback page. Unfortunately they also said that, until that time, there is no way to use these tools on new Cloudways servers. I’m a bit disappointed with Cloudways but it’s reaffirmed how much I actually love this plugin and rely on it.

    (@nosilver4u)

Strange, my test install is still working normally, but if they want user feedback, give it to em. Do you have a direct link to where other Cloudways users can vote for it?

Also, in the meantime, the EWWW API will work on their servers just fine (and it is pretty cheap): https://ewww.io/plans/

I have created this as a new suggestion on Cloudways forum under Service Improvement > WordPress
    https://feedback.cloudways.com/forums/203824-service-improvement/suggestions/13381302-ewww-image-optimizer-integration

You can give your vote on this suggestion to make it happen.

    Hi,

I’ve received an email from Pere, one of the founders of Cloudways to say that the tools won’t be installed unless there is sufficient demand from the community. The only exception being larger clients with a high monthly spend. Larger clients will be given a customised image which can be applied to their servers.

For most of us, the uservoice vote from kmarcink is probably the best chance we have. In the meantime, I’ll keep my WordPress sites on. https://serverpilot.io

Thanks for your help with this nosilver4u

Hi – I just wanted to say thanks for the posts about this issue.

I too have the problem with my Cloudways server. The latest version of EWWW works fine on my old Cloudways server which is PHP5.5 and MySQL. But the new server is PHP7 and MariaDB10, and I get the same EWWW errors as the other posters in this thread.

    Plugin Author nosilver4u

    (@nosilver4u)

My test server was PHP 5.6 with MySQL 5.5 on Debian 8, and it suffered the same problems. EWWW works fine on pretty much any version of PHP, including version 7 and even HHVM. It all comes down to restrictions that the webhosts have placed on the server.

For now, you can vote at the link above to voice your feedback, and in the meantime you can contribute to the development of EWWW by using our API (which will work just fine on ALL Cloudways servers): https://ewww.io/plans

Thanks nosilver4u. I ended up buying the cloud service.
