Cannot import into existing subcategories

    I’m attempting to import (WXR) blog posts to existing categories. These categories have a parent. When I import, the category is actually re-created at the top level rather than the subcategory I specified being used.

    The bad thing is, I can take a direct export of a perfect post, and re-import it with no changes other than the title (to avoid duplication), and the same thing happens. The category gets created at the top level and the post is associated there rather than to the existing category on the second level. So even WPs own exported files are not imported correctly.

    This appears to be a huge bug in the import process. Maybe someone else could test this and see if they get the same results?
