I am new to WP and already have a website that exists and is online. I do not need the blogging part of WP but was advised that WP is still a very powerful tool to make great websites. Now, I have added pages and slides (I bought a special theme that uses slides) to my WP site’s Admin Dashboard but I cannot get them to appear anywhere … when I click on my website’s name (top left next to the WP logo) my old website appears (nothing to do with WP). I am clearly missing something …. can anyone help ?
I would also like to know if it’s possible to design the whole website in WP but not have it published online until it is 100% ready – is there a master ‘Publish’ button somewhere ?
I have designed a couple of sites before using other methods and I must say that WP is not user friendly (I am reasonably computer literate ….)
    Thanks !

  • I use “Private Wp” plugin while working on the site to not have it be public. Create user accounts for your teams if required.

You will need to check when you did the install of WP where it actaully is. It my have installed into a sub-directry if you did not do it right.

Even if you add pages, you will need to check your “Appearances / Menu Manager” to ensure how you want your menus set up.

WP is very user friendly, it just takes to time to get used to working in a CMS dashboard versus straight up html or whatever else you were using. Hang in there it will be with the effort ??

This should give you lots of basic info on using WP:

For theme-specific information or help, you’ll need to contact the vendor/developer of your theme — as commercial themes are not supported here.

Thanks Amado.Miami and WPyogi. It seems my problem is with my hosting company because the template theme vendor informed me that my original site in the root of the server is overriding WordPress ….. I’ve asked them for assistance on this and hopefully it will help and then I’ll be all set with WP !

It was a problem on the mySQL server that my hosting company solved. I got the site up and running quite quickly so didn’t need to hide it from public view.
You are right Amado.Miami, WP is great once you get the knack !
