• Hi I am new to problems with WordPress.
I have 8 separate sites running on WordPress and at present three will not let me access the WordPress admin login page, I get the 404 error.
I have tried all sorts of advice found over the internet and come up with no results so far but getting very confused. I got desperate with one site and decided to clear it off completely and do a total reinstall from a backup which has failed as it looks like my backups are faulty.
Anyway the following site in particular I would like to get resolved if possible https://www.douglasdogtrainingclub.co.uk/wordpress/wp-admin
I have renamed the .htaccess file and created a new one.
    I renamed the plugin directory.

Any advice would be greatly received please.

    Also try login with: https://www.douglasdogtrainingclub.co.uk/wordpress/wp-login.php

If that does not help, try manually resetting your plugins (no Dashboard access required). If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel, navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and rename the directory of your currently active theme. This will force the default theme to activate and hopefully rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

If the issue still persits, try contacting your hosting provider in case some server rule is doing it.

Many thanks for your quick reply, however I have done what you say and still have no joy.
I will contact my host as you say and see if that will solve it.

They might be able to in case some server rule is causing it ??

Once again t-p thank you so much for your help.

I have had a reply from the host telling me they have fixed it, the reply read:-

“We did checked and confirmed there was a custom php.ini present under the WordPress installed directory, such that we have now disabled the same and enabled the required php.ini file for the mentioned domains.”

I’m concerned to know how that custom php.ini got there in the first place, could it happen again? I’m sure these are questions I should be asking the host!
