• After updating to 3.4, I got a message that my database needed to be updated as well but when I attempt to do so, nothing happens and now I am locked out of the backend of the site.

  • Try:
    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme by renaming your current theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress.

    – running the upgrade manually via wp-admin/upgrade.php

I cannot de-activate all plugins as I have member-only content that i cannot reveal to non-members. Renaming the theme didn’t help

I am sorry but this is Troubleshooting 101 – a process of elimination,. Right now, you have a non-working site which, I assume, will not be doing you any good, yes?

I will just overwrite the files back to the previous WP version via FTP. It’s truly amazing that a simple upgrade process breaks the site this way.

I would strongly recommend that you do not do this unless you also intend to restore the database backup that you took before beginning the upgrade process.

Bingo, now I am back to 3.3.2 where I am staying.

    Cheers.

Resetting all of my plugins really helped. Now to find out which one has the problem.

    Thanks!
