    Hi,

We run a Next JS / REACT headless CMS website with WordPress 6.1.1 at it’s heart, and when installing Wordfence we get the following error when trying to complete the install and obtain a free license.

After clicking resume installation and then get your license, you are redirected to the Wordfence website and presented with the following (this is while logged in to Wordfence).

“The data we received from your Wordfence plugin installation is invalid. Please contact Wordfence support.”

Is there somewhere we can email for free licences?
Could this issue be due to the unavailability of an API endpoint perhaps?

    Thanks in advance!

  • Same issue here- tried the download on your site as well as installing through the plugins library.

Is there any support for WordFence free version at all?

Hi @deanwhynow, thanks for highlighting the platform you’re having issues with obtaining your license.

I was able to connect to /wp-json/wordfence/v1 at the URL provided without errors so that may suggest the API endpoint could be fine. On some environments, the site needs to be able to connect to itself and if you need to specifically allow our servers to connect in, our IPs can be found here: https://www.wordfence.com/help/advanced/#servers-and-ip-range

I will provide some general advice that has worked for some customers as it’s always best to confirm the basics first. Problems might arise if you attempt to install your license after 24 hours from generation, you will no longer be able to automatically install the Wordfence license key. Additionally, if you are in a different browser than the one used when requesting your Free Wordfence license, you will be unable to automatically install your new Free Wordfence license. In those cases you will need to manually copy and paste the key from the email to complete the activation of Wordfence Security.

Aside from verifying the license key is still valid above, I would check whether you can install the license when Wordfence is the only active plugin installed. There could be a conflict with another plugin potentially stopping the verification of the key from communicating with our servers.

If nothing above seems to help, let me know as we may need to obtain some further diagnostic information to take a look.

    Thanks,
    Peter.
