Cannot generate API key on subdomain website

    We are not able to generate an API key for a website on a subdomain. We suspect it to be an issue due to being on a subdomain while main domain is not WordPress but that is unsure.

    We tried using the following methods without success:
    – Reset security logs, hardening and settings
    – Generate API key
    – Recovery via E-mail
    – Contact [email protected] to generate API key

    Reply from Sucuri support:
    I’m unable to generate a key with that email or domain. It could be that the subdomain is an issue, but I’m unsure.

    There are two reasons of why the API service cannot generate a key for your website. One is that the domain name is not reachable. Second is that the email address is hosted in a domain without a proper MX record.

    If the domain is the problem then we can simply use another one, it doesn’t needs to be yours, you could generate a key for a website like “example.com” without any problem because the service only checks if the pair “email + domain” already were used, not if “email” is actually the owner of “domain”. However, if the problem is with the email address (because the host lacks a proper MX record) then you will have to use a different one.

    Send me a message to [removed] (email removed to avoid spam) and I will generate the key for you; don’t forget to include the domain name and email that you want to associate to the key, just in case the system allows me to generate the key using that data. I will immediately reply with a valid key.
