• Hi,

this is a really basic question from someone new to WP.

Before I outline my issue, it may be pertinent to note that I am using Astra theme (free version), Elementor Pro, and Easy Digital Downloads (free version). One of the first things I did when creating my first page was to set my Global Site settings (typography etc..) accessed via the hamburger menu in the left-hand sidebar.

Recently I have created a “Download Category” in the WP Dashboard called “Musician’s Survival Kit”. When I view this page on my site it has this huge ugly title:“Download Category: Musician’s Survival Kit”, which I cannot for the life of me work out how to edit. It’s the same on all the download categories I have created. While viewing the page I have gone via “Customise” in the top menu bar into the various options in the left-hand menu but nothing I try will allow me to edit this title. The various actions when I click on >Global > Typography would seem to be relevant, especially those under “Heading Font Family” but when I put in different values under this section nothing actually changes on the page in question. Why is this?

First of all have I come to the right place? Not sure whether I need to be asking this question under “Easy Digital Downloads” as it is a “download” category I am struggling with. Or Astra???? Any guidance most gratefully received.

    Thanks in advance

  • I am not terribly familiar with either Astra or Elementor, but the Typography settings are likely to belong to one of them. Why the changes to the Typography setting do not apply to this particular heading would be a point of incompatibility between Elementor and your theme.

The heading itself is something added by the theme, this is typically something that requires code to modify, but whether the theme supports a simpler method is something you’re going to need to ask the theme author.

The existence and appearance of the heading is not something Easy Digital Downloads controls. It has just created a “taxonomy” called “Download Category”, and the appearance of this on the front end, particularly any heading, is controlled by the theme.

Since all of these issues connect to the theme, even if some functionality is related to plugins, I would start by contacting the theme author for support.

I strongly suggest to read the Astra documentation on Typography:

Many thanks for taking the time to respond – much appreciated! As a novice it is useful for me to hear what you say Jacob – beautifully explained! Yes, you have reminded me that the heading is a “product” of the theme and this is where I should be looking for my answer.

Thank you for the link. I have read several support articles but will give this one a go.

    Many thanks to you both.
