I haphazardly attempted to change my permalink settings and copied my site url into the custom permalinks slot. Now when I access my admin panel, I view my posts but I can no longer edit the permalinks page because the edit button has disappeared.

I can open my site’s mainpage but clicking on any post will lead to a broken link.

Creating a new post does not allow me to change the permalinks page since the same url appears without an edit button.

I spent some time googling this issue and came to the permalinks codex site and it says: “You never, ever put your site url in the permalinks slot. You must use one of the structure tags, or a combination of tags only. “

So I messed up. But after a lot of forum searching I haven’t found a direct solution to this problem.

Any advice on how to revert my post permalinks to the standard setting?

  • a) try this first.

    Login at yoursite.com/wp-admin
    Manually navigate to yoursite.com/wp-admin/options.php
    Look for “permalink_structure”
Set to something that works, scroll to bottom, save changes, cross fingers.

    b) restore your database from the last backup

“A)” worked like a charm. You are a lifesaver thank you! I’m new to using wordpress so I was completely unaware of options.php

It worked? Well, I’ll be darned. I’m as surprised as you are…

    Just kidding!! ??

    Glad it got you going!
