Cannot edit a field that is on the cart

I am able to add a field that appears only with a certain category of products. I can add content to the field. The field data appears on the cart page (so far so good). There’s also a pencil icon that appears when I hover over the field and a message “double-click to edit”. However nothing happens when I click or double-click the field.

I have checked the right options in the global settings and for the specific field. When I check the javascript error console, all I see is “can’t find variable: wc_add_to_cart_params”
