This plugin has been working well for me, but ever since November 2013, it no longer backs anything up. When I run the job manually, I keep getting the following error:

    Cannot create folder: /home/content/p/i/e/piercecapital/html/wp-content/uploads/backwpup-2827e-logs

I checked the uploads folder through FTP and see that a folder called backwpup-84891d-temp IS created, but obviously the full back-up is failing and nothing is sent to DropBox.

I have tried CHMODing both the wp-content and uploadsd folder, but that doesn’t help.

I have BulletProof Security installed, and unactivated it, but that didn’t help either.

  • Sorry, but normely it is a rights problem. Create the folder by hand and chmod it too.

    Hi!

I got exactly the same problem.

I changed chmod of wp-content folder to 777. Nothing changed.

I manually created backwpup-95df7-logs folder and changed its chmod to 777.

When I run my job it still gets me that same message “Cannot create folder: /home/nowaszybka/szybkanauka.pro/wp-content/backwpup-95df7-logs”

    Please help …

Check that you have realy the right folder and that it is not on a symlink.

Than some hoster set Special rights that you can not change.

You kan move the logs folder to uploads to. There are often more rights.

    1. “Check that you have realy the right folder and that it is not on a symlink.”

    How would I do that?

    2. Does it mean that I will never be able to create automatic backups on this hoster?

    3. I did this right now and error remains the same.

    1. That means if themessage is

    Cannot create folder

BackWPup can’t find the folder an trying to creating it. But you say

I manually created backwpup-95df7-logs folder and changed its chmod to 777

. If ther only missing write permission ther cames up an other message. You can ask our hoster to set the permissions corectly.

    2. Yes, No. Ask him vor setting the permissions and look what he answers.

    3. see 1. Somtimes it is not done with setting it to 777. Have you checkt again the the rights realy set? Some FTP Clients caches the results.

    Hello,
I was receiving the error “Cannot create folder: /home4/speedx/public_html/wp-content/uploads/backwpup-a6fdb-logs”.

Eventually I figured out that the “Log file folder” in the BackWPup settings (Logs tab) was incorrect. It was set to the path of my production/live server, but I had recently restored the site to a local server (same issue as if you/your host moved to a different server). So it was correct at one time, until I restored my site elsewhere.

To solve it, I just set the “Log file folder” parameter to a valid path on my local server which has proper permissions (like “…/wp-content/uploads/backwpup-a6fdb-logs”).

    That resolved my error.

Yes, that is what you must do. The problem is that the folder is not relative stored and must changed.

I can affirm this is the problem. I just migrated an installation to a new domain. Even though I did a search and replace on the database, it apparently didn’t find the file path (because it wasn’t an https://www… path, it was a /home/accoutname/public_html? path).

All working happily again. Thanks for the tip, @swatson.

Your plugin is really great but can I give you an advice?

Do you think Facebook or Google would get the success they got by saying users: “The problem is that the folder is not relative stored and must changed.”

User experience is everything. If you see a problem and the software can easily solve the problem but it doesn’t and asks the user to change something.. to fix something.. to study or understand something.. the software is not user friendly.

“Cannot create folder” should become: “your log folder has been updated automatically”.
