• I have just installed WordPress 2.71 on my web site https://www.spencerprint.co.uk

Everything appears OK, the control panel shows and I can access all the features, but I cannot create a ne wpost, or even edit the introduction post from WordPress, “Hello world” A message comes up saying it cannot find the file.

Is this something to do with the permalinks & the htaccess file?

I don’t have a htaccess file and am not too confident of creating my own. I know how to create it, but not sure of content to put.

Can anyone please help. I have neve rused WordPress before.

    The site is at https://www.spencerprint.co.uk/wordpress

    Many thanks,

    Mike

  • Might help to know more details. What do you mean by Can’t? Do you get an error message? Does it kick you someplace else?
Are you logging in ad Admin?
Try turning off Permalinks and see if you have the same problem.
Most of the .htaccess is created by wordpress for you. Would think you have to have one. It would be in the root of the domain or subdirectory if WP is installed in a sub.
