I recently updated my Jetpack installation, and cannot for the life of me connect it to WordPress.com.

I get this fancy error message:

site_inaccessible Error Details: The Jetpack server was unable to communicate with your site [HTTP 500]. Ask your web host if they allow connections from WordPress.com. If you need further assistance, contact Jetpack Support: https://jetpack.me/support/

I contacted my host (Bluehost) for support, and they seemed to be unable to assist me at all, directing me right back to here.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Hi Ashley,

It looks like you were able to connect Jetpack to WordPress.com. Are you seeing that error in your dashboard?

Can you try deactivating, then reactivating Jetpack?

It happened to me on my host (names.co.uk) as they don’t allow the xml scripts :

    Good Morning,

The plugin Jetpack sadly isn’t compatible on our Shared Hosting Platform. The standard xmlrpc.php script is quite commonly installed with many free blogging. Unfortunately, it is quite easy to exploit and often abused by amateur ‘hackers’ and spamming groups for malicious purposes.

A number of plugins still use xmlrpc.php and the solution is normally to rename the xmlrpc.php file to another file name. However Jetpack requires the file to always be called xmlrpc.php and these changes won’t work.

Maybe it’s the same for bluehost?

    Bryan,

I actually was finally able to resolve it myself – here is what I did:

    – Deactivated ALL of the Plugins. Reactivated only the Jetpack plugin.
Worked like a charm, and I was then able to reactivate all of my other plugins.

The only problem is, for connecting to social media via Jetpack, I had to do this same process.

Thank you! Hopefully this helps anyone else having similar issues.
