• I am trying to change the url address on my site so it shows properly as https://www.example.com in the General settings.

I have redirected my domain name to the site and when I type it in to the address bar it points to my site, but is not displaying as that address.

I am trying to change in the settings tab under general, but when I change the WordPress Address, it locks me out and says page cannot be found. I then cannot login in again. I am going into the wp-options file/site url and changing back there so I can relog in.

However, wonder how I can change the url so that it displays properly and doesn’t lock me out. Any suggestions appreciated.

  • From your description it sounds like maybe you are using web forwarding to point domain A to your hosting space which is actually set for domain B.

Therefore from WordPress’s point of view the hosting space is set for domain B and that’s what you need to have in your general settings as the website address.

Putting something else in there which it knows nothing about will confuse it and it won’t know what to do as you are finding.

I think you need to do one of 2 things. If you are using forwarding (and wish to continue) then change from unframed to framed web forwarding – this will keep domain A as the address in the user’s browser. It’s not great though as makes it difficult to link to specific pages and also is not good for SEO. The real address of the site would still be domain B and that’s what you’d need to have in settings as the website address.

The better solution is to properly point your required domain to the server using A records / nameservers and make your hosts aware of this. They can then either then map your domain to your hosting space or may request that you take out a second hosting account and close the first. It’s more admin but in the long run this is the best solution.

    Hope that helps.
