Were you trying to activate a new theme (switch themes), install a new theme, or edit a theme file?

I was trying to activate a new theme but always unsuccessful. Yes I was trying to switch the existing theme the wordpress default except for the wordpress classic and the clean simple white but unsucessful if I choose other themes.

Activating (switching to) a new theme doesn’t require copying files, so you shouldn’t see that error, unless you’re trying to install and activate a new theme via the “Add New” interface.

Sorry I am just new here. I am trying to install and activate a new theme that’s it. So what should I do now?

Try changing the permissions of the /wp-content/upgrade/ directory to 777.

Thanks for the help but I read that using 777 is not good.

The worst that can happen as a result of using 777 permissions on a folder or even a file, is that if a malicious cracker or entity is able to upload a devious file or modify a current file to execute code, they will have complete control over your blog, including having your database information and password.

That’s correct, but it may be necessary on your server to install themes via the “Add New” interface. You can always change it back to 755 when you’re done.

Please help me …. I have searched so many post but I can’t find exact and assured answer for me….

Our blog is https://blog.beadsandpieces.com/. We are using a custom template and we want to switch it to classic or wordpress default so that it is easy for us to modify and no cost needed for the programmer. But we are afraid if there will be post or comments that will be lost when we will switch it. Will this be possible??? What should we do first, switch our theme or upgrade it first? Which is more safer? We are really new on this and we already get tired of paying when we want to change some of our layout.

Please give us some advise??? Thanks

peace-sha, your content (posts, comments, pages, etc) is safe in the database and not associated with the theme. You won’t lose anything by switching themes.
