Cannot change the share words for Twitter button or else remove it

On this post, it shows only the Facebook share button: https://americanorthodoxchristian.com/life-and-death/

I would like to keep this helpful plugin IF I can either edit the words which appear when Twitter button is clicked (replace the cool site message with my own wording) OR remove the Twitter share button if wording cannot be updated. And, if neither, then remove the plugin.

I do like it – only being unable to edit it is not agreeable. I must be able to choose the words on the Twitter share or else it is fine to just delete using the Twitter share button is also ok with me. So far, I can do neither. I have cleared caches on website (and obn browser) repeatedly – I have always pushed Save when I unchecked the Twitter button as an option and still it shows on some posts. It seems the control panel for the plugin does not respond/control what is showing.

Right now, the plug in settings are set to show only Facebook (since the edit on Twitter words would never update despite my saving my short new message). But, instead, both Facebook and Twitter show on some posts.

Okay. And you de-selected the rectangle icons under question 3 in the plugin? The settings under question 1 pertain to the round icons that you’re not showing on your site.

I have tried – what do you see? It seems to sometimes only display Facebbok share button and then another time it shows the Twitter one. I do not want the Twitter share unless i can control its wording which also never updated when I tried. Thank you.

Yes, sure, happy to help. Ok yes, this very much sounds like cache. Does it work if you cleared cache?

On https://americanorthodoxchristian.com/rejection-of-god-americas-downfall/ it shows both icons to me, and on https://americanorthodoxchristian.com/orthodoxy-not-a-religion-the-way-of-life/ only the Facebook one. This looks very much like cache. Did you clear it everywhere? I.e. browser, cache plugins, server-side caching etc.?

I did it again – every posts – and site as a whole. Still the Twitter share button shows https://americanorthodoxchristian.com/aspects-of-forgiveness/

I did not know it would do this – I thought I could control the plugin in its dashboard – but it will not respond to anything I put there…it stays regardless of what i check or uncheck. I did do caching as you said.

Ok, that’s very strange. Of course, whatever you state on the dashboard should reflect on your site. I cannot remember such a case (it was always cache). Can you see if you can replicate the issue on a dummy site here https://tastewp.com/new?

Also, maybe you can give it a few hours, and check back later? If it’s cache somewhere, it may have cleared by then. Please let me know if this works.

So, went in and again did the caching as you said, then afterwards, I deactivated both caching utilities I use – then signed out and checked – and it appears to be correct. I appreciate you helping me! I clicked all posts and it appears only Facebook share button is there. I’m going to experiment with that tester some more, too – as it may help me. One question – should I leave caching off (in your opinion) or re-activate after a few hours? Again, I deeply appreciate you being here to assist me.

Cool, I’m glad to hear we’re making progress! Once it all shows as you want, it should be okay to switch on caching again, as that just “freezes” what you currently have. Maybe try and see.
