    Dear all,
due to the 2-factor-authentification in google, I had to go for a app password for my gmail account, which I use for my business.
Unfortunately, that affected my contact form on my website in the way, that it did not send the submitted messages in my gmail account anymore.
I guess I need to change now the password in the Easy SMTP WP plugin as well in configurations, so that the contact form will again forward the messages to my gmail account.
The big question is now: How do I do that?
I tried to overwrite the previous one with the current one and saved the changes, but
it doesn′t accept the new one. The previous one is still in place and it didn′t let me chnage it. I tried to delete the Easy SMTP WP plugin and reinstall ist, but it doesn′t work this ways. The old credentials are still there with no opportunity to change them.

Has anyone an idea on that, what to do?

Thanks a million for your help!

  • Hi,

Are you saying that you can’t change the settings and saved them in the plugins admin panel? Which settings are you trying to change?

    Regards.

    Hi mbrsolution,
thank you so so much for getting in touch with me!
Exactly, I cannot change the settings in the Easy WP SMTP plugin and save them in the plugins admin panel.
After saving, the old credentials/old,previous data appears again in the fields.
No chance to change anything there.
Another thing I tried: I deleted the Easy WP SMTP plugin and thought, I reinstall it and then maybe I can fill in the fields from scratch, but the previous data was already in place, so this way was again not successful.
With regard to which settings I want to change, it is the SMTP-password.
Since I changed my login data for my gmail account, I need to change it in the plugin as well, I guess without doing this, my contact form on my WP website is not sending the submitted messages from the website through to my e-mail account.
Because since I changed to password for my gmail account, the submitted messages from the contact form do not go through to my mail account, I only see them in the admin panel in WP.
    That′s the story!
Thank you very very much for your time and support in this situation
It means a lot for me!
Have a nice day and hopefully hear from you soon again!

    Hi,

To completed remove the plugin and the plugins settings, click on the following button >>> Self Destruct >>>. This is located in Settings -> Easy WP SMTP -> Additional Settings.

Let me know if this works for you.

    Kind regards.

    Dear mbrsolution,

thanks a million again for your support, but it is simply crazy and not
    even the “self-destruction” button helped.
It seems that when I fill in my e-mail address, etc. again from scratch,
the old password is somehow still interconnected with this e-mail address.

When typing in the new SMTP password for the SMTP username, the latter is
the e-mail address, and then save changes, the old password appears again.
I cannot remove this, it is horrible.

    These errors are displayed:
SMTP Error: Could not connect to SMTP host.
SMTP ERROR: Failed to connect to server: php_network_getaddresses: getaddrinfo failed: Name or service not known (0)SMTP Error: Could not connect to SMTP host.

I don′t know what is happening there in the background, since unfortunately, I am a real newcomer to this kind of subject.

So sorry, for still bothering you with my problems.

Thanks again so much for your help, maybe you have a clue where to proceed.

    Best regards!

Hi, lets try something different. Make sure you clear the browser cache and then try again. Also make sure the Auto Fill feature in the browser is cleared as well if you have it active. This feature might be worded different depending on the browser you use.

Let me know if this helps you in any way.

    Kind regards.

    Hi mbrsolution,
thank you so much again for your suggestions, but unfortunately this didn′t solve the issue.
I tried it several times, cleared the browser cache and cleared the auto fill feature. I explicitly deconnected the auto fill feature for the gmail account affected.
But then, nothing changed and after refilling the settings in the Easy WP SMTP plugin and then save changes, the old password appeared again.
When I look into my browsers settings –> privacy&security –> Saved logins and passwords, I now see, that the used gmail account I use in Easy WP SMTP settings has successfully conncected with the new and correct password. Everywhere the new password works for the gmail account, but not for the Easy WP SMTP plugin.
I am kind of desperate, mbrsolution.
What can I do? Can I grant you access to my wordpress dashboard via a username and password I create? and you try this by your own, because I don′t know where to continue. I could also send you a video, where I show you what′s happening when I do the whole process from self-destruction to refilling the settings from scratch and at the end, the old password is there.
I wish you a very nice evening, thanks a million for your time and efforts!
    Best regards.

Hi, your best option is to delete the plugin and also the plugin’s database table from your database. This would remove everything from your site and server. Then install a fresh new copy and configure the plugin again. Another option would be to use a different email address with a different password.

Let me know if this helps you in any way.

    Kind regards.

    Hi,
thanks for your next suggestion. I will definitely do that!
But how do I delete the plugin’s database table from my database?
If you can explain me that, that would be absolutely awesome!
Hopefully then this issue is solved!
    Thanks a lot!!!
    Best regards.

Hi, please check the following documentation. You need to look for the following table swpsmtp_options related to out plugin located in Options table in your database.

    Kind regards.
