Cannot change post status to Published on edit post page

  • Hello,

    I suddenly lost the ability to publish posts on the post edit screen. I have seen other topics about similar problems but never found a solution.

    If I click the publish button it just saves the post as a draft, and I only have the options of draft and pending review in the dropdown select box. however if I go to the quick edit screen the option to set the status to published is there.

    I was trying some different plugins before this happened, but have deactivated and even uninstalled all the ones which I installed since this last worked.

    Any kind of help would be great, I am on version 3.5.1. I have no idea why it suddenly went from working perfectly fine to this.

    Try deactivating all your plugins and resetting the plugins folder (using FTP rename the plugins folder to pluginsHOLD temporarily)

    See if that fixes it. If so, reverse the above steps one by one to see what’s causing the problem.

    Post a link to your site if more help is needed after the above steps.

    None of those steps fixed it, and this site is not live yest I am just building it on a local test server so there is no outside access.

    What theme are you using? If you have the problem in twentytwelve with no plugins, then you could try reinstalling WP by re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

    Also make sure you’ve completely backed up your site before doing so.

    I am using a custom theme that I built. I guess I am going to have to reinstall I was hoping to avoid that.

    No script error, but I have just noticed that it works in Chrome but not FF. I have tried clearing my cache and using a different computer, but it still won’t work in FF.

    Just noticed that it is not working in IE either, so only the webkit browsers will allow me to publish right now. I really need someone to help me get this fixed.
