Cannot change placeholder colour on [select] field

  • Hi All
    I’ve added a ‘select’ dropdown field to my form, but I can’t change the black colour of the placeholder text to the grey that’s in all other fields. I’ve created an id for the field, then tried things like #Country ::placeholder{color:red!important;} (red was just a test color) but nothing works.
    I need to have the placeholder text in #70Ebbb, and all the drop-down countries in black, but I think I’ve been through every combination of wpcf7 form stuff and cannot find an answer. A developer friend suggests a JavaScript function that would “listen” for a change in the value of Country and would change the colour of the text within the drop down menu depending on the new value. Surely there must be an easier answer?
