• While many features look promising, this can only be run on a live website.

This lends to “cowboy coding”, or possibly breaking a live website.

Thus it is not useful when making big changes to one’s website, such as if you want to change thumbnail image sizes. In this case you might need to “break” the website by first regenerating thumbnails, then “fix” it by updating the newly broken links with th eupdated image url’s.

However for many people, and many other use cases, this plugin could work well.
For example, if your live website already has broken links, and you just want to clean them up, it would be fine.
And if you don’t use a dev server ever, then this restriction will not impact you whatsoever.
Finally, if you do your dev work on a live dev server, accessible to other websites, then this could also be a great plugin you you!!

    Hi @sherylhohman

Thank you for your review. A two star review harms the Link Checker a lot, but I’m glad you didn’t go with one star because you see the use case for others.

It’s not entirely true that it doesn’t work with local dev sites because you can also make your local dev sites reachable from the Internet. It’s not a common thing and has some security implications, but it would be possible.

There is no standard or easy way to make the Link Checker work with local dev sites because it’s a rare edge case in my opinion. Probably everybody working with clients has a live dev or staging server. Also teams with two or more members very likely have a live dev or staging server.

I guess only solo website builders who build sites for themselves work exclusively in a local dev environment and I cannot invest the time to make the Link Checker work for such a niche as it is still a side project.

    Sorry for that.

Best regards and have a nice evening
    Marco
