When I try and backup my htaccess file I get a error message

    Forbidden
You don’t have permission to access this resource.

Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Why is this and how can I fix it ?

Forgot to mention – this is whilst using the AIOWP plugin and the settings screen in that plugin.

    Hi,

    Forbidden
You don’t have permission to access this resource.

Can you confirm your site file permissions are correct?

    Thank you

    Hi,
    Thanks for the response.
I assume you mean the permissions as set via FTP ?
It’s set that owner has read/write

Is there any other way to set permissions?

Just a thought – I read that some hosting companies block access to this file ? Is this true? Could that be the problem?

Hi, I recommend that you get in contact with your host about this issue. Let me know what they say.

    Thank you

    OK. Problem solved.
We use Pickaweb hosting and they use Cpanel.
There is a feature within Cpanel called ‘Mod Security’.
Apparently this feature decided in it’s infinite wisdom to ‘Blacklist’ and block my IP because of ‘frequent access’? What do they expect when maintaining a website?
By disabling this module I can now backup the file.
I have queried this feature with the hosting company and asked why there is not a whitelist for IP addresses in the module.
