Cannot auto publish to Facebook

Facebook now prevents third-party apps from publishing posts via user’s profile,because of Cambridge Analytica issue.

As per their new-facebook-platform-product-changes-policy-updates

The publish_actions permission will be deprecated. This permission granted apps access to publish posts to Facebook as the logged in user. Apps created from today onwards will not have access to this permission. Apps created before today that have been previously approved to request publish_actions can continue to do so until August 1, 2018. No further apps will be approved to use publish_actions via app review.

So apps can not post to user’s profile,it only allow posting to pages.

Thanks for your reply. I thought it would have something to do with that. The only thing is that I do want to publish to pages only, but during the authorization process I do not get the question about which page I would like to publish to. I think you do need to have permission to be able to do that or get that dialog box?

Maybe I am wrong but all my settings are correct regarding the instructions so I don’t understand why I cannot auto publish to my facebook page.

After authorisation the pages will listed in settings page as shown in the image.

@anjali94, I am not getting my pages listed. Only ‘Profile Page’. I have two pages connected to my personal account.

@hakancaner07 publish_pages, user_posts, manage_pages are not deprecated permissions,so it is not invalid permission.Please remove the app from Facebook settings and Re-authorize the app with all permissions.

@joeri1977 Could you please re-authorize the app once again?

We have created a new app and it worked without any issue. The pages listed as expected after authorising the app.

So please let us know if any issues.

@anjali94, unfortunately this doesn’t work. I also deleted the Facebook app and created a new one. I removed the connected app from my Facebook (personal) page and Re-authorize the app but again the app is only connected to my personal profile page and not to any of my pages.

Just to be sure, you still need to create a Facebook login product within the Facebook App like is explained in the instructions?

Please change define('XYZ_FBAP_FB_API_VERSION','v2.6'); at line number 35 of facebook-auto-publish.php to define('XYZ_FBAP_FB_API_VERSION','v3.0');

New apps will only work with v3.0 API calls.

You must set the Valid OAuth redirect URI as mentioned in the instructions,otherwise facebook prevent app from accessing it,with an error message ,
URL Blocked: This redirect failed because the redirect URI is not whitelisted in the app’s Client OAuth Settings. Make sure Client and Web OAuth Login are on and add all your app domains as Valid OAuth Redirect URIs.

@anjali94, Do I need to (re)setup everything, because changing this line and Re-authorize the app didn’t work or show my pages?

@anjali94, yes I have set the Valid OAuth redirect URI as mentioned in the instructions. I can show you some screenshots if you need?

To allow WP Facebook Auto Publish to auto post to your account with v3.0 apps, you need to set up your Business Manager account, before authorising your application.

In the Business Manager account , navigate to
Settings >Business settings > Data Sources >Apps. Add your application to Business Manager account.

I do was wondering what the difference is between this plugin and the Jetpack -> Publicize plugin. Because the WP Facebook Auto Publish wasn’t working I install Jetpack and setup publicize which was real easy. No Facebook App creating, ID and secret key settings, just login with Facebook and select the page you want to publish to. Real easy, especially for people who are not familiar with the Facebook developer website.

Jetpack isn’t my favourite choice, that’s why I wanted to use the WP Facebook Auto Publish plugin, because it comes packed with a lot of things I don’t need but I was curious why the setup is so different.

We use the api(Application programming interface) provided by Facebook to access and post to it.
The other plugin which doesn’t require these steps might be directly login as the user and publish content as the user through their own APIs.
