Cannot Add New Plugins or Themes

  • I have WordPress up-and-running, but when I manually add a plugin to the plugins directory it doesn’t show int he WP Admin, and when I add a theme to the themes directory it doesn’t show either. If I rename the folder, such as my theme folder to be the same as one of the default-installed themes (such as twentyfourteen) then it displays in the admin console, infact the ones that do show show two times (one with a picture and one without). Any ideas?

  • Primarily it seems folder permission issue. Did you checked your plugin/theme folder permission is 755?

    I have checked all the permissions, even set them to 777 for testing purposes, still not working.

    When I try to upload a new plugin or theme I get a “cannot create directory” error, but in terminal I am able to mkdir folders in the wp-content directory with no issue.
