I just took over two WordPress sites for a client whose original developer is MIA. I was able to access the first site without any difficulty. But when I tried to access the second with the url https://thecarmoongroup/wp-admin/ I get a 404 error. I tried /wordpress/wp-admin and got the same thing. I have the username and password but they aren’t doing me any good without the login page!

The site is built on a commercial WP theme “Strata,” but I don’t have the details about the version or when it was built. There does not appear to be a specific admin area or log in for the site on the theme page, so I am at a loss. The client is trying to find out where his sites are hosted and get the log in details for their site, so worst case I can contact them. But does anyone have any other ideas?

    Thanks.

  • The website https://thecarmoongroup.com/ is not loading. Let us know the proper tld (.com or .co.uk etc).

Can you FTP into the server? There may be a WordPress security plugin installed and running which is “hiding” the login screen.

No i cant ftp into your server. If you can access to the plugins folder then by just renaming it you can access the login page (wp-admin) again.

I can’t get into the plugins folder either.

https://carmoongroup/wordpress/ takes me to a test page but I can’t access any of the links there.

Any other workarounds or suggestions? I hate to have to start all over again but it looks like I may have no choice.

Do you have access to any file manager (provided by control panels like say cpanel, directadmin) ? You must try to rename plugins folder from filemanager or through backend if you have ssh access and check the login page.

I’ve had a bad week so this issue wound up on the back burner. I renamed the plugins folder but that didn’t change anything. File manager on Go Daddy says the wp-admin folder is deprecated and go to /wp-includes/wp-admin.php but that comes up a 404 error too. The files are there..I just can’t get to the back end to edit them. I guess I’m going to ask Go Daddy for help..

Thank you for trying. If you think of anything else please let me know. Go Daddy is notorious for not offering the best support.

Quick thanks to Abraham Rijo for all the help. GoDaddy was able to locate the faulty plugin security plugin and disable it so and I can now access the site. What an ordeal.
