• Looking for help ASAP!

I logged into the admin section of my site yesterday and was told to upgrade to latest version of WP, which I did, but it seems to have crashed out. Then when I tried to log in again I got a Server Error 500 screen. When I click on Details the following message appears…

“The website encountered an error while retrieving https://xxxxxxxxxxx.com/wp-admin/upgrade.php?_wp_http_referer=%2Fwp-admin%2F. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly.”

I’ve tried renaming my “plugins” folder but that didn’t work.
Please can someone help me to resolve this issue as I have lots of updates to implement on my site.

  • Generally speaking a 500 error is returned when a server couldn’t fulfil a valid request (for many varying reasons). That being the case, I’d recommend talking to your hosting company’s support team and check any status pages they may have. It is likely that they are aware of the problem and are working to fix it.

Unless you manage your own server. In that case you need someone with knowledge of linux and apache to dive in there and take a look.

It may be coincidence that you happened to be updating your site at the same time.

    Best of luck

Thanks Carlos. I’ll check with the hosting company first.
