Cannot access wp-admin: 404 error
-
Hello,
I’m locked out of the admin for one of my sites; I contacted the host support, and for one thing, they WERE able to access my admin site, even though I cannot from any of a multitude of browsers and computers from different locations. They insist that one of my plugins (I would thusly suspect WordFence) of having broken, and added something to the database that is restricting access.
I’ve tried the usual task of renaming different plugin folders 1 by 1, and then got bored and renamed the whole plugins folder; this does “break” the plugins on the site, quite obviously, but never cleans up the errors that we suspect are in the database.
I’ve also tried going in through phpMyAdmin, but cannot quite figure out what to try and fix there, though I did verify normality of settings in wp_options.
If I go to wp-login.php, I CAN log in, but the it directs me to the admin page, and I get a redirection error. If I go back to the homepage, and click on the administration toolbar (it does acknowledge that I’m logged in) then when it tried to go the admin page, I get a 404 error (from a plugin that’s supposed to be disabled).
How do I disable the plugin from the database? Or might someone suggest that the problem is elsewhere?
One last thing, I did send an email to WordFence support, but have not heard back from them yet; maybe I’ll bug them up some more today, as I’m really needing to get this site back up again.
Thanks in advance, appreciate any suggestions!
–Jon
