• I cannot access my website. It’s saying Unable to Connect. I can view it on my phone but not on my desktop. I have no idea what the issue is.

    Thanks!!

  • You have provided us with very little information, making it hard to troubleshoot. It is most likely an issue with your browser cache, so try clearing it. (Chrome Edge Firefox Internet Explorer Safari).

Sorry about that. I was in a panic. Still is… but it appears that it’s my Firewall so I’m seeing if my ISP can help with this.

    Thank you!

    Hi @myworldz

It’s possible your Desktop ip address has been blocked by your website if you are running a security plugin such as Wordfence or iThemes Security.

This would explain why you can’t visit via Desktop but you can use a mobile connection (assuming your mobile connection is through mobile data or a different network and hence has a separate ip address).

If you can log into your website via your mobile then you should be able to check if your desktop ip address has been blocked and remove the block.

An easy way to check your desktop ip address is go to https://www.whatismyip.com.

An alternative option is to use a VPN so that you are assigned a new IP address that isn’t blocked.

One thing to test is whether other people outside of your local network can still access your public facing site. If so then you can relax a bit knowing that the site isn’t down, it’s just your individual connection being affected which will give you time to get in and sort it out.

When I turn off my MaAfee Firewall I can see the site. I logged in and I have BackupBuddy by iThemes installed. I deactivated it but that didn’t help.

I asked someone to view it on their laptop and they cannot see the site. So now I’m confused cause they are not using the same IP as me.

Where in the backend of the site can I check to see if my IP is blocked?

    Thanks for your help!

    Hi @myworldz,

If you are turning off McAfee firewall on your local computer then that strongly suggests that your access to the website is being blocked *locally* not at your website.

It sounds like you need to shoulder tap someone with some IT support experience that can lend you a hand.

As far as looking in your site for where ip addresses may be blocked – that’s very much dependent on which security plugins you may be running. They’ll each have a settings area which will show currently blocked ip addresses.

So this has nothing to do with my ISP? When you say blocked “locally” what do you mean?

I guess I’m trying to figure out if it’s WordPress, My Computer or my ISP that is causing the issue – and why all of a sudden I would be blocked ??

This has never happened before so I’m lost/confused.

    Thanks again!

Could it be the hosting company blocking my IP?

    Hi @myworldz,

If you disable McAfee firewall on your local computer and everything starts working then it tells you the block is happening at your computer, not at your ISP.
