I upgraded to 3.5.2 today. When I attempt to access the dashboard, I am given the following message:
    Database Update Required

WordPress has been updated! Before we send you on your way, we have to update your database to the newest version.

The update process may take a little while, so please be patient.

When I select the button to update the database, all that appears is the WordPress logo.

Please let me know what to do to either upgrade the database or to downgrade back to 3.5.1, If you are able to make this as un-technical as possible, I would be happy. I am a content manager, not a programmer. He quit.

  • Did you rename your THEME to old – i.e.

    wp-content
        themes
           silverorchidOLD
           twentytwelve

You do need to make sure twentytwelve is in that themes folder as well.

WPyogi, I am working with both SilvewrOrchid and Noteworthy. I changed both of them to OLD and nothing appeared on my site. I then went to sign in through the admin php, and the same issue happened as before. When I hit the button to update, everything disappeared by the WordPress logo and nothing processed.
BTW – twentytwelve is in the directory

Hello Larry, I am having the same issue and it seems to be a memory size problem in my case, see thread here:

Sandrinepeli – the other forum is one about a different type of error message. I am not having that issue. Also, I had my memory adjust up a few months ago.

I still see the same theme on your site – so if those folders are renamed something is really not right with your site.

Have you checked with your hosting company?

WPyogi – I just got off the phone with the hosting site.

For some reason, when the initial update happened, the location of the database was changed to “******” instead of the actual location of the database. He manually changed this everything is running fine. He suggested that I report this to WordPress as this could be an issue that others might be having.

I have the ability to make my database secure and the WordPress installer might not have been able to read it. If I go into the files and highlight my database, a small window comes up with “******” he believes this could have some connection.
