I upgraded to 3.5.2 today. When I attempt to access the dashboard, I am given the following message:
    Database Update Required

WordPress has been updated! Before we send you on your way, we have to update your database to the newest version.

The update process may take a little while, so please be patient.

When I select the button to update the database, all that appears is the WordPress logo.

Please let me know what to do to either upgrade the database or to downgrade back to 3.5.1, If you are able to make this as un-technical as possible, I would be happy. I am a content manager, not a programmer. He quit.

  • Can you link (URL?) to your site?

    Sure: wonderworldcomics.com

Once I sign in, the exact same message comes up on the screen. Once I click on the button, the same issue happens.

    Database Update Required

This message? Then you may update database.

Yes, Krishna, I get that message. When I click on the button, the message disappears again and only the WordPress logo is left with nothing else happening. Signing in under the .php address did nothing to fix or change the problem.

FTP into your hosting panel and check if you have the file upgrade.php in the folder wp-admin. If not, upload a fresh copy.

Krishna, I have an “upgrage.php” what am I supposed to do now?

Have you tried to deactivate all plugins, revert to Twenty Twelve theme and then try to update?

As per my original post, I am not technically savvy with the back end of the program. I do not have any clue as to how to deactivate plugins or change the theme from the file manager section. I can do that from the dashboard – but as you know, I can’t get into the dashboard.

Could you explain how to deactivate the plugins and change the theme from the file management system?

To deactivate the plugins using the file system try these steps.

    1. Using FTP or whatever filemanagement tools your host has provided you with navigate to the wp-content directory.
    2. Once there locate and rename (don’t delete) the plugins directory to plugins-old. Just that one directory and nothing else.
    3. Try and re-login to your WordPress dashboard.

See if that gets you farther.

Thanks, Jan, but that did not work. I still have the same problem. I cannot access my dashboard or upgrade the database.

I am still having the same issue after renaming my plugins directory to plugins-old. Can someone explain to me how to manually change my theme to TwentyTwelve?

Addendum. I read online that you can force WP to return to the defaul template by renaming the current template (in my caswe templates because I have to templates running) to -old. That did not work.

Is there anyone who can figure out a resolution before I lose my job?
